Major Forest Fire Burning in Burlington County

The fire has been raging out of control since Sunday.

A large brush fire at Wharton State Park continues to burn, with the smell drifting as far north as New York City.

New Jersey State Forest Fire crews have been working on the fire since Sunday. At 9 a.m. Monday they reported that the 1,500 acre fire was 50 percent contained.

An assistant fire warden with the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service told the Burlington County Times firefighters were "making good progress." He also said heavy rain in the afternoon forecast would help extinguish the blaze.
