Man Wanted for Camden Shooting Arrested in Maple Shade: Police

Abimelec Garcia, of Camden, is charged with attempted homicide, Camden County Police say.

A Camden man wanted for attempted homicide was arrested Wednesday at a home in Maple Shade, authorities said.

According to Camden County Police, 18-year-old Abimelec Garcia met another man—who he previously had lived with—on the 1200 block of Decatur Street in Whitman Park the morning of Jan. 2. While the two were walking down an alley together, the victim turned away and Garcia shot him, striking him in the right bicep, police said.

The wounded victim ran away and flagged down a Camden County Police patrol car nearby and informed officers of the incident. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force went to a home on the 100 block of Poplar Avenue in Maple Shade, where Garcia was staying, and arrested him without incident. During the arrest, officers located the Ruger P90 handgun Garcia allegedly used in the shooting, according to police.

Garcia is charged with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was sent to Camden County Jail, with bail set at $500,000 cash or bond.
