Maple Shade Police Blotter

Police investigate a number of thefts, including several musical instruments, worth thousands of dollars, stolen from a car.

Nov. 7

Theft from a vehicle, 10:11 p.m. — Someone smashed the side rear window of a red Mazda parked at PJ Whelihan’s on Lenola Road and stole a wooden clarinet, reeds, stand, purple cleaner and music sticks, valued at $1,100, police said. An oboe with a protective case, reeds and tuner, valued at $1,600, and a metronome, valued at $200, were also stolen. The damage to the car is estimated at $500, according to police.

Nov. 8

Theft, 3:36 p.m. — The door handle of a storage unit at the Mini-U-Storage was cut, police said, and items inside the unit were stolen. However, police do not know at this time what was stolen.

Nov. 10

Theft, 9:49 a.m. — Police said more than $1,500 that was to be deposited at the bank was stolen from Burger King. The investigation is ongoing.

Nov. 11

Theft, 3:13 a.m. — A woman had her blue Coach purse containing $500, her asthma inhaler, and her car keys stolen from the bar at Jay’s Elbow Room, police said.

ADVISORY: Maple Shade Police also want to remind motorists and pedestrians of the law pertaining to marked crosswalks, which requires motorists to stop and stay stopped (rather than simply yielding) for pedestrians in a crosswalk.

Pedestrians are also responsible for obeying signs and crossing where appropriate. Police advise that pedestrians who jump out in front of a car without giving the motorists time to stop put themselves in obvious danger and may be in violation of the law.

Both the motorists and the pedestrians can receive summonses for violating aspects of this law, police said.
