Police arrest two men for stealing pieces of railroad track and an unlucky Collingswood man gets caught breaking into cars by an off-duty cop.

Feb. 10

Arrest (theft), 10:46 a.m. — Police arrested David W. Loehr , 31, and Osvaldo Gonzalez III, 20, both of Hainesport, NJ, following an investigation into a scrap metal theft. According to a report, police received a report of a red pickup truck taking rail pieces from a rail line property known as the Pemberton Line, which is operated by Norfolk Southern Corp.

Upon investigating, police located the pickup leaving the scene and stopped it on Main Street and Camden Avenue, near the Moorestown border, and discovered sections of railroad track in the bed of the truck, according to the report. Loehr, the driver, and Gonzalez, his passenger, were subsequently arrested and charged with theft. They were released on summonses.

The stolen rail pieces were returned to Norfolk Southern Corp. Norfolk Southern Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the rail line, also joined in the investigation and is working closely with Maple Shade Police.

Maple Shade Police remind all the the rail line right of way is private property, not public property, and citizens are not free to trespass on it. Materials, equipment and tools stored along the rail line are property of Norfolk Southern, and removing them is theft.

Anyone witnessing a theft in progress is urged to call Burlington County Central Dispatch at 856-234-8300. Norfolk Southern Police can be contacted at 1-800-453-2530.

If anyone saw a red Chevrolet S10 pickup take metal from the rail line on any prior dates, call the Maple Shade Police Detective Bureau and reference case 2012-2283.

Feb. 5

Arrest (burglary/theft), 10:49 p.m. — Police arrested Darrin Wade Mack, 40, of Collingswood, after he was seen breaking into vehicles at Pickwick Apartments by an off-duty Perth Amboy police officer, according to a report. The Perth Amboy officer took Mack into custody and had the maintenance man call Maple Shade Police. Mack was sent to Burlington County Jail on two counts of burglary and theft.

Feb. 7

Criminal mischief, 11:51 a.m. — A resident of the 200 block of Crawford Avenue told police someone broke the front window of his home sometime between 10-11:30 a.m. Police are unsure at this time what was used to break the window.  

Feb. 9

Arrest (drug possession), 8:50 p.m. — Police arrested Wade Stackhouse, 41, of Oaklyn, following a monthlong joint narcotics investigation between Maple Shade and Cherry Hill police departments. Police stopped Stackhouse’s cab and discovered he was in possession of 21 bags of crack cocaine, according to a report. He was charged with drug possession and distribution and released on a summons.
