Moorestown First Responders Recognized for Sandy Service

Town council declared this week as "Emergency Personnel and First Responders Appreciation Week."

First responders typically go about their jobs with little fanfare or recognition, but town council took a moment to honor Moorestown’s emergency personnel Monday for their stellar service during Hurricane Sandy.

“It is incredibly impressive, and the time and the dedication and commitment that each and every one of you give to each and every one of us is incredibly appreciated,” said Mayor John Button, before presenting each of the emergency response teams—police, fire and EMS, as well as public works—with proclamations.

Council declared this week as “Emergency Personnel and First Responders Appreciation Week” specifically to recognize the “well-organized effort” put forth during the storm, the mayor said, applauding the self-sacrifice the first responders showed by leaving their families and heading out during and after the storm to help the community recover.

“And we don’t take that lightly,” he said. “I wish we could do more. But we can certainly recognize you … You have our utmost and profound thanks.”

Councilwoman Stacey Jordan echoed Button’s comments, calling the actions of the first responders “humbling.”

“I can’t tell you how much all of us up here, and all of the residents, really appreciate everything you did,” she said.

Many of the first responders attended the meeting and were treated to a standing ovation from council and the audience after the mayor read the proclamation aloud.
