Moorestown Police Warn of Phone Scam Targeting the Elderly

Scammers call the elderly saying they are a friend or relative and need money for an emergency.

Moorestown Police are warning residents to beware of increasing incidents in an ongoing phone scam that is targeting elderly citizens.

The scammer calls and says they are a friend or relative saying they have an emergency and they need money to be electronically transferred.

For example, the scammer will say they are in jail and need bail; they are out of the country and lost their passport; or they are on vacation and lost their wallet.

Police recommend anyone who receives a call like this call the actual friend or relative and make sure they are OK. Police request readers make all friends and relatives aware of the scam.
