Police Arrest Man After He Flees, Crashes Car

Also, a shoplifting investigation leads to the arrest of two men on drug charges, according to police.

March 28

Eluding police/DWI, 2:15 a.m. — Police arrested Luis A. Castellanos, 25, of the 200 block of South Lenola Road, Maple Shade, for fleeing from police after they tried to stop him for speeding. According to a report, a Maple Shade officer was running radar on Route 38 East when Castellanos sped by. The officer tried to pull him over, but cut off pursuit after Castellanos showed no signs of stopping. Castellanos subsequently crashed into the curb on the ramp from Route 41 North to Route 73 South, disabling his vehicle, police said. He was charged with eluding, hindering apprehension, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and was sent to Burlington County Jail. Castellanos was also charged with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle violations, police said.

March 29

DWI/Reckless driving, 10:23 p.m. — Police arrested Michael Griffin, 39, of North Maple Avenue, Maple Shade, on multiple charges. Police stopped Griffin on East Broadway for speeding, according to a report, and subsequently charged him with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, failure to exhibit registration and insurance, possession of a controlled substance (suboxone), and possession of a controlled substance in a motor vehicle. Griffin was sent to Burlington County Jail on $5,000 bail.

April 1

Drug possession, 9:13 p.m. — Police arrested Jaron Mitchell, 21, of the 3100 block of Warren Street, Philadelphia, and Patrick Lane Thomas, 24, of the 1000 block of Old US Road, Lillington, NC, on drug charges subsequent to a shoplifting investigation. According to police, while detaining a woman at the 7-Eleven (2802 Route 73) for shoplifting two cigars, they learned a male accomplice had fled the store and left her behind. Their investigation quickly led police to the Clover Motel, where the accomplice was found, along with another man who had not taken part in the shoplifting. Mitchell and Thomas were both found to be in possession of marijuana and charged as such, along with charges for possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report. Both were sent to Burlington County Jail on $20,000 bail each. 7-Eleven declined to pursue shoplifting charges, so the woman was released.
