Police: Camden Man Distracted Woman, Swiped Her Wallet

Also, Maple Shade Police arrest a PA man for DWI after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident.

Aug. 2

Arrest (burglary), 3:10 p.m. — Police arrested Reginald M. Jones, 52, of Camden, after he allegedly swiped a senior citizen’s wallet. According to a report, Jones knocked on an elderly woman’s front door on the 500 block of Buttonwood Avenue and persuaded her to come outside and discuss items under her canopy that he was supposedly interested in. Jones then walked into the house uninvited, reached into the woman’s purse and stole her wallet, police said. He walked past her and fled the scene in his vehicle. Police credited the victim for getting Jones’ license plate number before he fled. Jones was later arrested at his residence and charged with burglary and theft and released on 10 percent of $5,000 bail.

Aug. 3

Burglary, 3:25 a.m. — A burglar used a large rock to smash the glass door and display case at Kingsway Jewelers and stole assorted jewelry and watches, police said. If anyone witnessed the crime, call Maple Shade Police at 856-234-8300.

Criminal mischief, 10:33 a.m. — Someone slashed all four tires on a 2001 Ford Taurus parked on Hamilton Road, police said.

Arrest (DWI/reckless driving), 6 p.m. — Police arrested Paul S. Selfinger, 24, of Birdsboro, PA, after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of routes 38 and 73, according to a report. Police said Selfinger drove away from the scene of the accident and the other driver followed him to Route 38 and Mill Road in Cherry Hill, where he was able to motion Selfinger to stop. When police arrived, they discovered Selfinger was intoxicated, according to the report. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving while suspended, and having a suspended registration. Selfinger was released into a friend’s custody.
