Teen Sent Threatening Texts to BCC Staff: Authorities

The texts, from 19-year-old Jared Eversmeyer, shut down part of Burlington County College's Pemberton campus in April, authorities said.

A teenager has been charged with threatening Burlington County College employees via text message in April, according to authorities.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said Jared P. Eversmeyer, 19, of the 200 block of Broad Street in Mount Holly, allegedly sent the texts to six employees at the college’s aquatic center in Pemberton on April 23 and 28, which led to the closure of the physical education building on April 29.

The threats were non-specific, warning the employees they had been targeted and should quit their jobs, authorities said. The texts indicated “we have your names and addresses.”

Law enforcement personnel and explosive-detecting canines searched the building, but found no explosives. The building was reopened the following day.

An investigation revealed the messages were sent from an IP address associated with the University of Tampa in Florida, where Eversmeyer was attending at the time, according to authorities.

Eversmeyer surrendered last week at the prosecutor’s office and has been charged with six counts of terrorist threats. He was released after posting 10 percent of $20,000 bail.

Eversmeyer’s motives are still unclear, authorities said.

The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech/Forensic Crimes Unit, Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, along with the Pemberton Township Police Department, the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and the Burlington County College Public Safety Department.
