Gloucester County Woman Pleads Guilty in Shaken Child Death

Sheila Polanski pleaded guilty in the death of a Gloucester City two-year-old in 2011.

A Westville woman pleaded guilty to causing the death of a Gloucester City two-year-old she was babysitting in 2011, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk announced on Thursday.

Sheila Polanski, 36, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of Madeline McHenry.

The recommended sentence is 12 years incarceration in a state prison, 85 percent of which must be served before she is eligible for parole.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 2.

Polanski admitted in court to shaking McHenry and slamming her on the floor on July 5, 2011. She further admitted she delayed seeking medical treatment for McHenry once she became unresponsive.

McHenry was taken to the hospital and died on July 7, 2011.

That's because she admitted to doing it. Had there been a trial that had to be argued and she was found guilty she would of got a lot more time added on. Either way, going to prison for what she did is the worst. Them other prisoners are not going to take to kind to her.

Hope you're right, John. Hope she gets just punishment while in prison. On the same newscast last night, I saw that several people who stole from people they were caring for would get 12 to 20 years. And this b.... gets 12 yrs. for killing an innocent child entrusted to her care - and in such a horrible way (shaking and slamming her to the ground)? And will serve just little over 10 years? This little girl lost her entire life, and her parents have suffered the ultimate loss. Something wrong with our justice system. There should be no deals for murder.
