Booker Set to Be Sworn in as U.S. Senator Thursday

The former Newark mayor becomes NJ's first black US Senator

Fifteen days after winning a special election, former Newark Mayor Cory Booker is poised to become New Jersey’s first black senator when he is sworn in at noon Thursday (today) in the Capitol, according to an nj.com story.

Vice President Joe Biden will conduct the ceremony in the Old Senate Chamber.

Booker, 44, flew to Washington D.C. Wednesday after formally resigning as mayor of New Jersey’s largest city, a position he has held since 2006. City Council President Luis Quintana became acting mayor at midnight last night.
