Burlington County Freeholders Warn Against Phone Scam
Scammers are telling PSE&G they must pay their bill within hours or risk having their services shut off.
The Burlington County Freeholders and the Burlington County Division of Consumer Protection are warning residents about a telephone scam in which people posing as PSE&G employees call and threaten to turn off electric or gas service if your bill isn't paid immediately.
“Our residents must be aware of this type of scam or any scam for that matter,” Freeholder Director Leah Arter said. “Residents are urged to call our Division of Consumer Protection if they receive any calls regarding this topic.”
Scammers tell residents they must pay their bill within hours using a pre-paid card sold at pharmacies and convenience stores. The card is known as Green Dot Money Pak, and it isn't an accepted form of payment for PSE&G.
PSE&G customers subject to having their services disconnected for non-payment are notified at least 10 days in advance via a notice on their bill, according to the utility.
