Five Things to Know About Monday's Council Meeting

Residents will be able to pay their taxes and their water and sewer bills online beginning April 1.

Moorestown Council had a full agenda when it convened Monday night at the high school. The budget and holiday decorations were among the hot topics of discussion.

Here are five other items of interest that were discussed Monday night.

1.     An ordinance scheduled for first reading concerning changes to township code about smoking in public parks and recreation areas was tabled without discussion. Councilman Phil Garwood tabled the issue, citing the need for more information before discussion. Council members agreed, citing similar concerns.

2.     As of April 1, township residents will be able to pay their taxes, as well as their water and sewer bills online. Residents can pay be e-check or credit card, but credit card payments will have an extra 2.59 percent tacked on to the cost. Residents will also be able to receive their billing notices for water and sewer by registering an account online.

3.     Council authorized a change order for the construction of the new town hall/library building in the amount of $29,766.96. The project is about 93 percent complete. Town hall is set to open the second or third week of May, followed by the library.

4.     Once township council moves its meetings into the new town hall, they will initially air exclusively on the township’s website while the township works out some issues with its TV station. Council meetings don’t currently air online, but Township Manager Scott Carew said they may continue to air on the township website even after they return to TV.
