Moorestown Council Republicans Throw Support Behind Tom MacArthur

The Republican members of Moorestown Township Council officially endorsed Tom MacArthur for the Third Congressional District seat on Monday.

Mayor Chris Chiacchio, Deputy Mayor Stacey Jordan, Councilwoman Victoria Napolitano, and Councilman Phil Garwood released the following joint statement:

“As members of the Moorestown Town Council, we know how important it is to elect leaders who will work hard every single day to create jobs, keep taxes low, and be a voice for the people they were elected to represent. For these reasons and more, we are proud to announce our unanimous support of Tom MacArthur for Congress.

“Tom’s experience in the private sector as a successful job creator, his numerous charitable efforts, and his proven track record as a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars on the municipal level have proven to us that there is no person better suited to represent the people of Moorestown in Congress.

“Our nation is at a crossroads, and we believe that Tom will bring the passion, drive, and necessary resources to the campaign that will keep this seat in Republican hands. We look forward to joining Tom on the campaign trail and help him win big in our town this November.”

The Burlington County Republican Party’s Screening Committee endorsed MacArthur last week. The Ocean County Republicans are also likely to endorse MacArthur.

MacArthur, the mayor of Randolph Township in Morris County, is seeking the nomination for the seat currently held by Jon Runyan, who served two terms in Congress and is retiring this year.

Multiple Republicans are seeking to fill Runyan’s seat, including former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, who lost to Cory Booker in last year’s special election for the U.S. Senate, and State Sen. Christopher Connors.

Last week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee tagged the Third Congressional District race as a “Red to Blue” race, meaning the committee will support the winner of the Democratic nomination.

Three Democrats are pursuing their party’s nomination, including Burlington County Freeholder and attorney Aimee Belgard, attorney Howard Kleinhendler and Jack Fanous, founder and director of The G.I. Go Fund, a nonprofit that is dedicated to helping the nation’s veterans.

The Third Congressional District is made up of parts of Ocean and Burlington counties, including Moorestown.

The primaries takes place June 3.
