Open Space Referendum Petition Rejected

Open space spending could still appear on Moorestown's November ballot if organizers address "deficiencies."

Residents pushing for a ballot question on Moorestown's open space spending were dealt a setback this week.

Township Clerk Patricia Hunt rejected the petition, citing "defective" wording, according to a report in the Courier-Post.

Hunt's decision was based on an opinion from the township solicitor, who said that the petition question went too far in restricting the definition of recreation as set by the state, and that voters only have the power to add or omit a category of spending as set by the state or change the open space tax rate, according to the report.
