Residents Concerned About Bristol Incinerator's Impact on Burlington County Air

Residents turned out in droves to question a proposed hazardous waste incinerator they believe could have a negative environmental impact on parts of Burlington County, nj.com reports.

The proposed incinerator would be constructed in Bristol Township, Pennsylvania, but there are concerns the air in Bristol Township and parts of Mercer and Burlington counties could be polluted as a result. The fear is toxic ash and dangerous particles could be blown into the New Jersey counties if the wind is blowing east, according to the report.

Several experts testified at Monday night’s Bristol Zoning Board meeting, including environmental expert Michael Logan, who said local businesses produce more pollution that the incinerator is expected to, according to the report.

Arguments were passionate and zoning board members threatened to have unruly residents removed by police force, according to the report.

The proposed incinerator is two stories and 50,392 square feet. After going before the zoning board, the applicant still needs approval from the Bristol planning board and council. The U.S. Department of Environmental Protection has the final say, according to the report.
