Runyan Among Republicans Ready to End Government Shutdown

"Enough is enough," the Burlington County congressman said Tuesday.

Congressman Jon Runyan is one of a handful of Republicans in the House who are willing to pass a funding bill—no strings attached—to end the government shutdown.

"Enough is enough. Put a clean (continuing resolution) on the floor and let’s get on with the business we were sent to do,” Runyan (R-3) said in a statement Tuesday, according to the Burlington County Times.

Runyan voted Monday, along with the vast majority of his Republican colleagues in the House, in favor of a funding bill that conditioned keeping the government open to delaying key portions of "Obamacare," and a second on Tuesday that delayed for a year the law's requirement that millions of people buy medical insurance.

However, on Tuesday the former Eagles offensive lineman called for an end to the impasse.

"I have very strong concerns about Obamacare and have heard from hundreds of constituents who share them, but shutting down the entire federal government and threatening our economy to make a political point is utterly ridiculous," Runyan told the Times.

Runyan is one of several House Republicans who are prepared to pass a bill to fund the government, minus any obstacles to Obamacare. It would take 17 Republicans to defect and join Democrats to pass a clean continuing resolution.
