Moorestown Council meetings will start half an hour earlier beginning Aug. 4.

Council meetings begin at 7 p.m., with the workshop session, council decided Monday night.

The idea is for council to hold its workshop session from 7 p.m. to around 7:15 p.m., followed by about 15 minutes of public comment before going into the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Meetings currently begin at 7:30 p.m., and includes both the regular and workshop sessions, as well as the public comment portion.

While the idea is for the workshop session to conclude quickly, that isn’t always the case. Monday night’s workshop session lasted over an hour.

Councilman Greg Newcomer suggested that any discussion that threatens to run beyond 7:15 should be continued during the regular meeting, while Councilman Phil Garwood stated that any discussion that ran that long would most likely become an agenda item anyway.

Also during Monday night’s meeting, council approved on second reading an ordinance that allows the installation of a sign for the residential development at the lots adjacent to Orleans at Main Street.

Among items approved on the consent agenda:

* an $18,642.15 contract for the purchase and delivery of new police uniforms from Oakwood Uniforms;

* a $15,979.20 change order for the town hall/library project;

* a $16,716.50 contract for rental uniforms for the Department of Public Works from Aramark Uniform Services; and

* a $561,000 contract for Level 1 construction for ultraviolet disinfection replacement at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Council also approved the 2013 audit.
