What to Know for Tonight's Council Meeting

Money for Fullerton Park, final approval of alcohol sales, and refinancing of old bonds (for $240,000 savings) on the agenda for tonight's meeting.

Township council meets at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the media center at . A few items of interest on the agenda:

  • Council is expected to formally adopt an ordinance allowing the sale of alcoholic beverages in Moorestown. They on first reading at their last meeting. The ordinance covers certain parameters, such as the types of liquor licenses that will be issued, how many (six, based on population—1 per 3,000 residents), and who will be responsible for issuing licenses (township council). Township attorney Thomas Coleman said a subsequent resolution will contain more detail pertaining to the bidding process, including the minimum bid for a license, as well as certain restrictions (i.e. limiting sales to  in specific zones per the second referendum). Once that resolution is passed, the township can begin bidding licenses immediately, he said. He expects to have the resolution ready for council by March.
  • The Friends of Fullerton will present a check to the township written off of the leftover funds raised . Friends of Fullerton chair Keith Omlor said the money—in the neighborhood of $20,000—will be put into a "special fund for the purpose of maintaining Fullerton Park for years to come."
  • Council will vote on an ordinance to refinance $6.3 million of 2003 bonds, which will save the township approximately $240,000 over the next eight years, according to financial officer Tom Merchel.
  • Council may also discuss the municipal complex project and property revaluation, which .
