What You Missed from This Week's Meetings ...

Town council discusses field lighting and reassessment marketing, while EDAC sheds light on the latest developments in the business community.

For those who couldn’t make it to Monday night’s township council meeting, there were a few items on the agenda that didn’t make it into a full story, but were nonetheless noteworthy. Here a few leftover tidbits from the meeting:

  • After presenting him with a proclamation Monday morning, Mayor John Button praised for his work. "He has been a terrific member of our community," Button said of Bach, . "He has done a wonderful job."
  • Township manager Scott Carew said he was meeting with Appraisal Systems Inc.——to begin laying out a timeline for a public information campaign, to include public meetings and distribution of material to local media. "This is a no-brainer for the township, but people may not understand why we're doing this," he said. 
  • Council delayed a decision on funding the installation of new lighting at and parks because it hasn't received, or found out whether it will receive, a $250,000 county recreation grant to be used toward the project. Button said the township will be notified by the county whether it's been awarded the grant by July 11. Council will vote on the lighting project at its July 23 meeting.
  • Though PREIT (owner of the Moorestown Mall) , Button said he plans to speak with PREIT and expects that by council's next meeting on July 9 either he or Carew will be able to present some information. 

The Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) also met this week, discussing several matters, primarily the possibility of establishing a Business Improvement District in Moorestown. But there were some other items on the agenda as well:

  • EDAC chair Jacob DerHagopian said the owner of the —"a multi-billion-dollar company out of California"—are interested in leasing, not selling, the property. He said a retail store expressed interest in the property recently, but wanted to purchase it. 
  • Community development director Tom Ford said PREIT's  had been approved and the company recently submitted permits for . 

Council’s next regular meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 9, in the IT room at  (enter the school from the side nearest the ).
