What You Need to Know for Tonight's Council Meeting

Moorestown council could resolve five major issues tonight, including the scope of liquor licenses and improvements to Wesley Bishop North.

Tonight’s council meeting looks to be a memorable one, with the possible resolution of five major projects/initiatives on the docket.

The following is a sampling of what’s on the agenda:

  • Council will consider an amended version of the ordinance it passed earlier this year regulating alcohol sales in the township. Following Judge Ronald Bookbinder’s ruling last month () and a , Mayor John Button said solicitor Thomas Coleman has prepared the amended ordinance for council to consider tonight. Asked exactly how the ordinance would be amended, Button said, “I have some ideas,” but declined to elaborate further. “This is going to be a discussion,” the mayor said. “It would be excellent if we could make some progress.” Council is also expected to .
  • Council will vote on a resolution to rescind an from the township’s Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund for improvements to . Last month, members of council . Whether the township pays for the debt service from the bond out of the general fund, the Trust Fund, or some combination of the two is a decision that “does not have to be made for these things to pass,” said Button, suggesting the decision could conceivably be made by a future council.
  • Council will also consider final readings of four ordinances: , , a $432,250 bond for new lighting at and (supplemented by a $250,000 county grant, and the use of the Trust Fund), and the $1.4 million bond on the Wesley Bishop North project.
