Annual Golf Outing Raises $35K for Moorestown Schools

A high school student will put his World Series tickets up for auction at Moorestown Education Foundation's biggest fundraiser.

Tommy Muccifori is doing something most sane 16-year-olds wouldn’t fathom.

He’s putting his front-row World Series tickets up for auction … for his school.

Muccifori’s tickets will likely be the most noteworthy items up for auction at the Moorestown Education Foundation’s (MEF) 16th annual golf outing on Oct. 3.

“Obviously I want to go (to the World Series), but I got to go when they won in 2008,” the Moorestown High Schooler said. “I thought it was a good idea, to give someone else a chance.”

Muccifori’s father, Thomas, is a member of the MEF and is helping organize the golf outing, which is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser.

Joanne D’Angelo, the district’s assistant business administrator and a member, said the foundation raises around $35,000 each year just from the golf outing alone through sponsorships, the live auction, registration fees and donations.

Over the last decade, the foundation has raised more than $500,000 for the . That money has gone toward scholarships for deserving students and the purchase of educational tools ranging from library books to iPads to a small store inside the Upper Elementary School staffed by special education students.

“We consider ourselves sort of the charitable arm of the board (of education),” said the elder Muccifori. “The foundation sort of strives to gap-fill.”

“It’s tremendously valuable for all the students for the scholarships,” said D’Angelo.

Thomas Muccifori said the MEF is so well-funded because supporting the school district has always been a priority for Moorestown. It’s tradition.

Muccifori’s family moved to Moorestown 20 years ago, he said. “We did it, honestly, not just because it was a nice, bucolic community. Ultimately we decided to stay here and build our lives here because of the school system.”

Asked to explain why his son would give up World Series tickets, he said, “From generation to generation, it’s passed down … You’ve got to give back.”

Tommy Muccifori said he might feel a pang of regret if/when the Phillies make it to the World Series he’s sitting on his couch watching, knowing he could be in the stands.

“But I’ve been there,” he said. “I’ve done that.”

The golf outing begins at noon on Monday, Oct. 3. D’Angelo said it will be a shotgun start with a scramble format.
