Arts and Entertainment Gala to Benefit Project Graduation

Proceeds from the "Senior Showcase" Wednesday night will benefit the Moorestown senior class's graduation party in June.

Organizers for this year’s Project Graduation party are within sight of their goal and have come up with a creative way to help close the gap.

The Project Graduation committee will present the first-ever Senior Showcase Wednesday night at , featuring a wealth of artistic performances courtesy of the senior class.

Organizer Mara Jacobs said the evening’s highlights will include an exhibition featuring the works of at least 20 student photographers, displays of student paintings, and several musical solos and duets, as well as performances of contemporary pop songs by a student band.

“It’ll be a great night of entertainment,” she said. “It’s a chance for these kids to go up there and do their thing.”

Jacobs said the organizing committee was searching for a way to get the students more involved in raising the money for this year's party——and also a way to gather all the student artists under one roof at the same time.

“Some of these kids have never been highlighted,” she said, “yet they are more than qualified.”

She said the showcase, despite being planned somewhat last minute, is on track for roughly 10 acts. As an added incentive, every senior who attends will be entered into a drawing to receive a mystery prize at the Project Graduation party.

The Project Graduation committee has raised about $50,000 to date, according to Jacobs. Their goal is $60,000.

“We’re on target if it keeps up and we keep selling tickets,” she said.

The Senior Showcase starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Moorestown High School auditorium. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students.
