FEP Hosts Music and Dance Medley April 27

The Friends Enrichment Program (FEP) for underserved financially disadvantaged Moorestown children hosts its annual Music and Dance Medley fundraiser in the dining hall/commons of Moorestown Friends School on April 27 at 3 p.m.

A total of 26 young people will perform in a fast-paced, eclectic program of music and dance.  Refreshments will follow the performances. 

Admission is free, but freewill donations will be spent on scholarships for qualifying children to attend day or residential summer camps, enroll in art classes or take private music lessons at no cost to their parents. 

Moorestown High School sophomore Alyssa Caffrey and a member of the Greater Princeton Youth orchestra, will play two pieces on the harp: Toccata by Susan McDonald and Music of the Night from “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Moorestown Friends School senior Kenan Soso will play Hometown Glory by Adele. Soso has been taking violin lessons since he was in second grade. He will also perform a hip-hop dance routine he choreographed himself. He has taken six years of dance training.

The other instrumentalists on the program: are Paishence Young, flute; Carly and Jake Rosvold, acoustic guitar;  Latrice Ellis, Sophia Gillespie, and Jada Walker, piano; Luke Rosvold, soprano ukulele; and eight violinists, including Esha Acharya, Jamie Bookbinder, Maria Heffernan, Carola Howson, Christian Kim, Karina Santos, Elliot Smith, and Paige Young.

There are also 11 FEP dancers: Mary Bradley, Aaliyah Champion, Taylor Dougherty, Latrice Ellis, Nyara Hollis, Azoriah Matthews, Luke Rosvold, Karina Santos, Jurnee Young and Paishence Young. 

They will be led by Moorestown High School seniors Alicia Hutchinson and Desiree Williams. Hutchinson and Williams have choreographed and rehearsed dances with the children since the beginning of the school year.

Hutchinson will lead her dancers in a Hawaiian dance performed to the lyrics of He Mele No Lilo as sung by the Kamehameha School Children’s Chorus. Hutchinson has been an active FEP volunteer for five years.

Williams will lead the dancers in a praise dance of her own creation.  She was introduced to praise dancing at the age of four and has been the director of FEP activities since the fall of 2010.
