Golf Outing Funds Extra 'Opportunities' for Moorestown Students

The Moorestown Education Foundation's 17th annual golf outing will be held next Monday.

Tickets are still available for the Moorestown Education Foundation’s (MEF) annual golf outing, which within the Moorestown School District.

Debtosh Chakrabarti, president of the MEF, said money raised from the golf outing (and other MEF fundraisers) has been used in past years to pay iPad carts, scholarships for graduating seniors, a writing class at the Upper Elementary School and other programs.

“In the current fiscal environment, school budgets are under significant pressure,” he said. “We want to provide some additional tools to do the nice-to-do things.”

Moorestown Education Association president Lisa Trapani said the MEF has funded Excellence in Education grants as well—mini-grants that supplement classroom learning. As an example, she said she used an MEF-funded grant to take a group of boys to a show in Philadelphia a few years ago.

“(The grants) allow a teacher to be able to supply the students with opportunities that the school district can’t pay for,” she said.

The MEF has raised roughly a half million dollars since the golf tournament was started 17 years ago.

The tournament kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Laurel Creek Country Club. Tickets are $250 per golfer and include the tournament, plus dinner and a live auction afterward, and can be purchased online through the school district website here.
