'It’ll Be Weird to Not Be in These Hallways'

In our third Moorestown Friends Senior Snapshot, Noah Rubenstein talks to us about the value of education for education's sake and missing the "tiny little space" of MFS.

's commencement will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday. This year's 72 seniors represent the Quaker-founded school's 226th graduating class.

Moorestown Patch will profile five seniors—what they've done, where they're going and what they'll miss—over the next few days leading up to the graduation ceremony.

Name: Noah Rubenstein

Age: 18

Activities: Theater, Editor of Images (creative writing magazine), Student Government, Lacrosse, Soccer

College: New York University

Intended Major: Dramatic Writing

Career Interest: My ultimate goal would be being a playwright on Broadway. I’ve done my research and I’ve realized that Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, all these people, it took them till they were around average age 36, so I figure I have about 18 years or so to make something really good. Either that, or any type of writing. I really love to write in any kind of form.

Fondest Memory from MFS: It’s kind of hard to think of one specifically, but I think anytime that I really felt like I was really connected to everybody, especially in my grade, in this kind of community. And where I wasn’t thinking about "Will it look cool if I do this?" or "Should I hang out with this group of kids?" Just being with people and having a good time and knowing I’m with good people and I’m happy.

Most Important Thing You Learned at MFS: Something I’ve learned is, nowadays education is kind of based on trying to get into a certain profession, which is kind of hypocritical of me to say cause I’m going specifically for something. Back in the day, my parents told me they went to college just to go to college to learn, just to be educated and well-rounded, and I really think that’s important. I really hope I get to do that more, and I think MFS has done that for me, where I just want to learn everything. Because I think everyone in any profession, if you’re educated and know lots of things—it doesn’t matter what it is—it’ll enrich you and enrich what you do.

What You’ll Miss Most: Definitely all the friends I’ve made and the closeness of everyone and the smallness. I’ll never have this tiny little space that I know everybody. I’ve been here since third grade, so it’s been 10 years. It’ll be weird to not be in these hallways.

What You’ll Miss Least: The things that I’ve said I appreciate were the things that used to bug me, like the smallness of the school, not having that many people. I can’t really think of anything.
