MFS Three-Peats as Regional Consumer Bowl Champs

Moorestown Friends School now advances to the state finals in Trenton to compete against the North and Central regional winners.

After another superb performance in the Consumer Bowl, Moorestown Friends School (MFS) will compete in the state finals once again.

Moorestown Friends won the 17th annual Southern Regional Consumer Bowl Competition at Burlington County College last Thursday, April 18. The Burlington County representative, Moorestown Friends finished over Cedar Creek High School from Atlantic County.

“The team has worked extremely hard to succeed in the county and regional Consumer Bowl competitions," said Barbara Kreider, MFS Science Department chair and Consumer Bowl advisor. "They are a well-rounded, talented group of students who have collaborated well as a team in practice and during competitions.”

Speaking to the students before the competition, Burlington County Freeholder Director Joe Donnelly acknowledged the “hard work and dedication” it took each team to reach the regional finals. While he wished all of the students the best of luck, Donnelly noted, “I am incredibly proud of the Burlington County students from Moorestown Friends and am rooting for them to succeed.”

Moorestown Friends won their first-round matchup against West Deptford High School of Gloucester County with a score of 130 to 90.

MFS now advances to the State Consumer Bowl Finals against Irvington High School and Freehold Township High School, the champions from North and Central Jersey respectively, in Trenton on May 23.

The game-show format of the competition tests students’ knowledge of consumer and weights and measures issues. Moorestown Friends received the team trophy after defeating 12 schools—more than in any other county—in the Burlington County competition in February.

The competition is sponsored by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and hosted by Burlington County College.

The winning Moorestown Friends team consists of:

Ashley Cartwright
Roy Thorstenson
Kirsten Mullen
Tia D’Costa
Katherine Thai
Barbara Kreider, teacher/advisor
Laurence Van Meter, principal
