Fifth grader Vinay Panayanchery will compete for a national title in August.

A Moorestown elementary school student is a regional champion.

Moorestown Upper Elementary School fifth grader Vinay Panayanchery won the Science Bee and Math bees in the Intermediate level regional bee competitions organized by North South Foundation held at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine Stratford Campus.

Similar regional level competitions are held in about 90 centers across 40 states in March and April. Vinay will compete for a national title in Dallas, Texas in August.

Educational contests organized by NSF in the U.S. are designed to encourage academic excellence among Indian American children. NSF conducts spelling, vocabulary, math, essay writing, public speaking, brain bee and geography bees.

Some of the NSF children have achieved top ranks in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, MATHCOUNTS and National Geographic Bee.
