Moorestown High School Freshman Makes Intel Science Fair Finals
Reeves Baiderson was one of 1,700 finalists from an initial field of 7 million from 70 countries.
A freshman at Moorestown High School was a finalist in the 2014 Intel Science Fair after advancing out of local and regional fairs.
Reeves Balderson’s Science research paper, "Sun In....Water Out! Light Absorbing Nanoparticles Dramatically Enhance Vaporization in Solar Desalination," focused on solution to global water supply crisis by creating a compact, inexpensive solar desalination device to convert salt water into drinking water.
Balderson was one of 1,700 finalists at the fair held at the Convention Center in Los Angeles, California last month. The fair began with a total of 7 million competitors from 70 countries.

He was also the second winner in the Junior Division (grades 7-9) for The 2014 DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition with his essay on “Clean Energy, Clean Water!”
There were nearly 10,000 science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) essays submitted by middle and high school students from across the United States and Canada, six winners were chosen for their excellence in research and writing.

Winning students and their sponsoring teachers were honored at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida in May, where Kennedy Space Center Director Robert Cabana. Mrs. Kimberly Martin, William Allen Middle School Science teacher, was his sponsoring teacher.
In the 2014 Delaware Valley Science Fair (DVSF) in April, he received the following awards;
- The First Place in Environmental Science Category Award- 9th grade division
- Silver Medalist- overall 9th grade division (this allowed him to advance to ISEF Intel competition on May 16 in Los Angeles)
- Special Award: Honorable Mention Water Environment Federation Award
Balderson finished first in the 9th/10th grade division in Environmental Science in the 33rd Coriell Science Fair in March.
