Quaker Shakers Ready for Moorestown Premiere

The dance squad, made up of district teachers, will perform at the Wizards game.

Serena Jacobs, a Gifted and Talented teacher at Roberts Elementary School, leads her dance troupe through a series of steps. Demonstrating each part of the routine before adding music.

“It’s been interesting,” said Jacobs of teaching the squad.

Jacobs, who has been choreographing dance routines since she was in high school, is working with the Quaker Shakers, the first-year Moorestown Dance Squad. The Shakers, made up of district teachers, will be performing for the first time when the Moorestown Magic takes on the Harlem Wizards March 26.

Jacobs, who choreographs dance routines for children who dance with pro sports teams dance squads, has had just four rehearsals with the Quaker Shakers. She has, however, provided each member with a CD of the Black-Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling,” the dance count and a video of the moves for the squad to practice.

“We were sitting at the lunch table and we were talking about the Wizards and how we should do a halftime routine,” Jacobs said of a conversation she had with fellow Roberts teacher Bridget Potts.

In addition to the Quaker Shakers, two families will get the opportunity to win a one-night stay at Crystal Springs during a halftime shootout.

Each of the two selected families will team with a Wizard. Each family’s designated shooter must make a layup and a foul shot. Their Wizard teammate must make a trick shot from half court for his team to win. All three shots must be made in three minutes.
