Chicago Cubs Sign South Jersey Native Mark Zagunis

Zagunis, a Holy Cross High School graduate, was drafted No. 78 by the Cubs on June 6.

Cinnaminson resident and Holy Cross High School graduate Mark Zagunis signed his first professional baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs this week, the Burlington County Times reports.

According to mlb.com the deal is worth $615,000, although the club is not disclosing the amount of the contract.

In three years at Virginia Tech, Zagunis hit .338 and stole 52 bases, according to mlb.com. He had 39 RBIs his junior year.

He was drafted No. 78 by the Cubs in this year's Major League Baseball Draft on June 6, according to the Courier Post.

Zagunis grew up as a Yankees fan in Cinnaminson, but said he's always wanted to see Wrigley Field.
