MFS Takes Down Timothy Christian for Finals Berth

The No. 3-seeded boys soccer team will face either 4-seed Trenton Catholic or No. 1-seed Gill St. Bernard in the NJSIAA Non-Public B South final Thursday.

The Moorestown Friends School (MFS) boys soccer team took down Timothy Christian (TC) Tuesday for a berth in the NJSIAA Non-Public B South final.

No. 3-seed MFS (13-6-1) defeated Timothy Christian 2-1, with the first goal not coming until the 44th minute. Justin Quintero played a quick free kick to Pierce Wiilams, who made it past one defender to score on TC keeper Evan Waldron.

TC's Matt DiLeo scored six minutes later to tie the game, but MFS's David Howarth sealed the win in the 70th minute with a goal from the back post.

Moorestown Friends will play the winner of the Trenton Catholic (4)-Gill St. Bernard (1) game in the final, which will be played 5 p.m. Thursday at Holmdel High School.

MFS hasn't won a state championship since 1979, when it defeated St. Cecelia's (which is now closed) 1-0 in the Non-Public B final.
