Moorestown Boys', Girls' Soccer Teams Advance to Semifinals

The Moorestown Friends boys' soccer team advanced to the semifinals, while the girls' team exceeded expectations.

The Moorestown High School boys’ soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 playoffs with a pair of wins by four goals, according to nj.com.

No. 4 Moorestown ousted No. 13 Triton, 5-1, in the first round. Thomas Dovell scored twice in the win. Other goals came from Mike Kassak, Alex Musgnug and Will Stewart.  Goalies JT Bretschneider and Brian Sever made a total of three saves.

In the quarterfinals, Moorestown knocked out No. 12 Oakcrest, 4-0. Mike Kassak scored twice. Other goals came from Mike Handlan and Ryan Newbury.

Moorestown visits No. 1 Ocean City in the semifinals on Monday.

Third-seeded Moorestown Friends advanced to the semifinals of the Non-Public B South playoffs with a 6-2 win over No. 6 Rutgers Prep.

David Howarth led the way with two goals. Other goals came from Peter Bader, Matthew Mullock, Justin Quintero and Pierce Williams. Goalie Mitchell Mullock made three saves.

Girls’ soccer

Moorestown has yet to surrender a goal through two playoff games.

No. 3 Moorestown defeated No. 14 Westampton Tech, 4-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 playoffs. It defeated Lacey, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

Moorestown visits No. 2 Toms River South in the semifinals on Monday.

Moorestown Friends exceeded expectations in the Non-Public B South playoffs.

It entered the playoffs as the No. 12 seed, and upset No. 5 Timothy Christian, 4-1, in the first round.

Nia Francis led the way with three goals. Vicki Geyer had the other. Goalie Gaelyn Gregory made one save.

Despite falling in the quarterfinals, Moorestown Friends took No. 4 Holy Spirit all the way to a shootout first.

The game was tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation and through two overtime periods before the Spartans eventually prevailed.
