Moorestown Crew Finishes Strong at Philly Competition

Members of the varsity and junior varsity teams excelled at the first Manny Flick on the Schuylkill.

Moorestown Crew’s varsity squads were among more than 40 high school teams to race in the first Manny Flick on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on March 18.

It was an unseasonably warm start to the 2012 Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA) spring season, with temperatures hitting 70 degrees by mid-afternoon.

Moorestown raced six boats, with strong showings in each category.

The top finish for the team was the girls Light Weight 8 placing first. This boat included: Katie Stevens (stroke), Allie Stevens, Julie Camoratto, Casey Powell, Amy Wright, Kristen Munoz, Alex Tsao, Sarah Jaraha (bow) and Lizzie Garrison (coxswain).  Racing in the girls JV 8, which took third place, were: Amanda Slominski (stroke), Shannon Farrell, Rachel Maher, Elena Carrigan, Samantha Brodie, Jasleen Kandhari, Maggie Sawin and Zahabya Mama. Rowing in the girls Varsity 8 were Olivia Perham (stroke), Sam Wonderlin, Claire Wixted, Sam Trivinia, Kaitlyn Boyle, Gabrielle Martin, Jessica Buck, Scout Brisson (bow) and Sarah Tennenbaum (coxswain). The girls Varsity 8 finished sixth.

The boys Varsity 8 and the boys second 8 both had second-place finishes, while the boys JV4 took third in their respective races. The boys V8 included Andrew Hendrickson (stroke), Will Roman, Will Van Fossen, Matt O’Donnell, Kevin Shaloo, Brian Regan, Mark Cairoli, Jason Goldenberg (bow) and Jack Sencindiver (coxswain). Making up the boys second 8 were Cameron Acker (stroke), Colin Mattox, Jason Henry, CJ Tweardy, Luke Zelinski, Samson Ramasamy, Ethan LaLumia, Jeff Waldin (bow) and Emily Mullin (coxswain). And racing in the JV 4 were Paul Entwistle (stroke), Will Gross, Kevin Harris, Wes Bickmore (bow) and Caroline Connors (coxswain).

The team’s next race will be in the Lake Lenape Sprints at Mays Landing. The boys and girls novice squads will make their debut at this race.
