Moorestown Football Drops Second Straight in Williamstown

The Moorestown defense wasn't at the top of its game on Friday night, as they gave up six touchdowns to the Williamstown Braves in a 41-17 stomping on Friday night.

"No film, that's for sure," Moorestown head coach Russ Horton said when explaining the game plan for Monday's practice.

Film of this game will not be of use, especially on the defensive side of the football. Moorestown allowed six rushing touchdowns to the Williamstown Braves in a 41-17 loss on Friday night.

Sophomore Marquis Little scored three touchdowns for Williamstown, who opened up a 20-3 lead on the Quakers by halftime.

“The coaches came out with a good game plan, the team and the (offensive) line executed well,” Little said after his big performance. “(I’m) just proud of what the team came out and did.”

Williamstown (4-0) scored on their first two possessions of the game, a 30-yard carry by Little, as well as a 23-yard touchdown run by Chris Inge, who had two touchdowns of his own, both in the first half.

Williamstown head coach Frank Fucetola was elated at how his team seemed to have very few problems with the Moorestown defense, especially considering the performance that Little had.

“Three touchdowns and he’s a sophomore,” Fucetola said. “He’s been doing a great job for us.”

Moorestown (2-2) fought back with a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one on a 1-yard run by quarterback Andrew Lisa, and the other on a 60-yard run by Alex Martinelli on a fumble recovery.

However, the game was just too far out of reach by that point. Martinelli’s touchdown with just 4:02 remaining still had the Quakers trailing by at least three possessions.

“Offensively, we’re just not in sync right now,” Horton said. “So we’ve got to get our offense clicking. Our passing game is supposed to be real good. We’ve got to start piecing it together.”

After winning their first two contests of the season, Moorestown is now mired in a two-game losing streak. Horton sees the next stretch of games as a real proving ground for his Moorestown football team.

“You can keep taking it, or you can get angry and take it out on somebody else,” Horton said. “We’ve got a good team; they’re just hiding it right now. They’re hiding it very well, and we’re waiting for them to wake up. If this team wakes up, we could be a good one.”

While Horton isn’t thinking of any drastic changes to the Moorestown game plan, he does admit that some things do need to be adjusted.

“We’ve just got to clean up the little things,” he said. “There’s times where we’re a good team.”

At the end of the day, the Quakers hope that they can use this game as a learning experience for further down the road.

“They took it to us,” Horton said. “Hopefully the kids learn from it, and hopefully it makes us better.”

The Quakers will visit Eastern High School on Thursday night in an attempt to stop their two-game losing skid.
