Moorestown Hockey Team Battles Cherokee For Title Thursday Night

The teams are tied 1-1 in the best-of-3 championship series.

The Moorestown Quakes Varsity Ice Hockey team is headed to the final game in a best of three Championship series against Cherokee.  

The game will take place on Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Igloo in Mount Laurel.

The teams are currently tied at one game a piece. 

After losing Game 1 by a score of 6-5 ,Moorestown came into Game 2 with a vengeance. 

Moorestown jumped out front to an early lead in first period with a goal by Mike Katz, assisted by Johnny Yedman. Cherokee responded with 2 goals to end the first period with a 2-1 lead.

Cherokee added to their lead early in the second to take a 3-1 lead.

Moorestown started to chip away with a power play goal by Liam Ridge, assisted by Johnny Yedman and Tyler Tavormina. Moorestown then tied it up with a goal by Eric Schwartz assisted by Tyler Tavormina.

The second period ended tied at three apiece.

Cherokee got a go ahead goal while on the power play but Moorestown responded less than a minute later with an even strength goal by Johnny Yedman, assisted by Mike Katz.

With about three and a half minutes left, Jack McCollough connected on a pass from Eric Schwartz to get the go ahead goal. Nat Foster added an insurance goal with about a minute left in the game with an assist from Mike Katz and Johnny Yedman.
