On a squad as offensively gifted as the Timber Creek Regional High School boys’ soccer team, goalie Andrew Garcia can often go unnoticed.
However, when the playoffs roll around, the pressure on goaltenders intensifies and the special goalies separate themselves from the pack.
On Friday, Garcia showed how valuable an asset he is, derailing Moorestown's season with two penalty-kick stops to give Timber Creek a spot in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group III semifinals.
One hundred minutes of soccer was not enough to separate No. 1 Timber Creek and No. 8 Moorestown. The game was tied 1-1 after regulation and two periods of overtime.
Alex Kourahanis, Jeffrey Morgan and Sonimi Halladay each connected on their penalties and Garcia clinched the game with a save against Moorestown’s fourth shooter—his second save of the shootout.
