Moorestown Library Gets Patriotic

In preparation for the Fourth of July Parade, the library is running kid-geared programs throughout June with a focus on U.S. history and patriotism.

The  is gearing up for the with a monthlong series of events sure to get kids singing “Hooray for the red, white and blue!”

Each Wednesday afternoon throughout June, kids ages 4 and up can drop into our “Hooray for the USA” film festival to brush up on U.S. history in fun-filled style with movie selections including This is America, Charlie Brown and Schoolhouse Rock’s America Rock. Young viewers will learn all about American history highlights including the Mayflower, the birth of the Constitution, the Wright Brothers’ flight at Kitty Hawk, great inventors, and more. Showtime is 4:15 p.m. and the programs will last about one hour. After-school snacks will be provided.

Many Moorestown children look forward to our monthly Lego League program, and this month will feature a very special twist on this favorite event. Boys and girls of all ages are invited to answer the cry “Give me liberty and give me Legos!” by attending Late Night Legos on Thursday, June 28, from 7-8 p.m. Participants are challenged to create a USA-themed creation (using Legos), from the American flag to the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell to the Washington Monument. Our patriotic creations will be displayed in the lobby of the library through the Fourth of July and beyond.

Finally, on Friday, June 29, children of all ages are invited to drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to create a star-spangled firecracker hat. These unique creations will be the perfect accessory to top off your costume for the big parade.

These programs are all free of charge and open to Moorestown residents. No registration is required. If you have questions, contact the Children’s Department at 856-234-0333, ext. 5.
