County Habitat Home to Get Its First Wall

Burlington County's Habitat for Humanity volunteers will begin work on the Cinnaminson home.

The first wall of a Habitat for Humanity house on Kern Street in Cinnaminson will go up this weekend and officially kick off the building of the new home.

The future home at 544 Kern St. already has a family slated to move in later this year. A  and was attended by N.J. Rep Jon Runyan.

“We are going to be moving fairly quickly,” said Caitlin Watterson, spokeswoman for Habitat for Humanity, whose county base is located in Cinnaminson.

Thanks to a , volunteers and staff from both groups will build the home. Another home is also being built on Kern Street, next door to 544. Watterson said she hopes work can simultaneously happen on that project, too.

The first home will be finished by the end of November and Watterson said a family is already slated to move in then.

The home will have four bedrooms and a family of three will be moving in.

“It’ll be rewarding to see the family get the keys to their home before the holidays,” said Construction Manager Allen McSparron in a release.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Kern Street home was held in March. It’s the first home Thrivent is helping fund in the county. The group has donated more than $150 million to Habitat for Humanity.

The first wall should be erected around 9 a.m. Saturday and the crew will work on the unit for the rest of the morning and afternoon.
