Supporters Aim to 'Wrap Up' Swede Run Barn Project This Summer
With only two minor pieces of the project left to complete, the restoration is slated to be finished this summer.
With only a couple minor hurdles left to clear, supporters of the Swede Run Barn restoration hope to have the project completed by this summer.
Organizer Julie Maravich said all that’s left to be done are the door jambs and new doors themselves. Project volunteer Dave Schill informed Maravich recently he would be starting work on the jambs very soon, while Steve Poaletti will build and install the new doors.

Although there may be some minor work to be done once those two components are completed—landscaping; Maravich said local archaeologist Jack Cresson is interested in doing an archaeological survey of the site—as soon as the doors are in, the fence that has surrounded the historic structure for months will come down, she said.
“We’ve got to wrap it up. If not by this summer, (during) this summer,” said Maravich.

Though some have questioned the she explained that a local architect and member of the Historical Society evaluated it and determined the roof is period appropriate.
Another plus: The new roof won’t need maintenance for the next 50 years.
While there’s enough money in hand to pay for the remaining work that has to be done—in part because some of it is volunteer work, and also —supporters still owe several thousand dollars to a contractor who did work early on in the project.
Maravich said supporters will have to undertake a little more fundraising to pay off the debt.
