Visiting Nurse Association Seeks Volunteers

Moorestown organization looking for volunteers for its many programs.

The will celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Week April 17-21 by seeking new volunteers for its programs.

Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is a nonprofit agency that provides homecare, hospice, private duty, community wellness and counseling services.

With a staff of more than 450, and a volunteer group of nearly 200, the agency brings care, comfort and compassion to residents of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties. As baby boomers continue to age, and as insurance reimbursement and coverage continue to decline, the need for volunteer support is greater than ever. Moorestown VNA offers volunteers the opportunity to work directly with patients, or to provide support through office work, fundraising events or community outreach programs. Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association welcomes volunteers from all walks of life.

Patient volunteers: Volunteers in our Hospice and Palliative Care Programs visit patients in their homes to provide a much-needed break for caregivers, to offer comfort to patients and their families, and to act as nonjudgmental listeners and empathetic friends. Patient volunteers may also travel to assisted living facilities to help residents in their daily activities and at mealtimes.

Bereavement volunteers: Offer comfort and friendly support via telephone and in-person to families and individuals who have recently lost a loved one. Volunteers may also lend a hand with grief support programs geared both to children and adults. Once such program is Camp Firefly, a two-night, three-day grief support camp held in Medford for children 7 to 14 years old.

Community and Office Volunteers: Meet and greet the community at health fairs, flu vaccination clinics and other local events, or assist our team at annual fundraisers, including a benefit Wine Tasting in June and a golf tournament in October. Working on administrative tasks, including filing, mailings and data entry, offers volunteers a nonpatient-related opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Special Talents:  Moorestown VNA offers a variety of community outreach  programs including memorial services, a bereavement camp and fundraising events, and is occasionally in need of  volunteer musicians, singers, quilters, or those with a special or unique talent. These opportunities usually require just a few hours of time, and offer the volunteer the opportunity to showcase their skill or talent to a new and appreciative audience.

Volunteers should be caring and compassionate individuals ages 14 and older, with a strong interest in helping others and giving back to their home communities. Volunteers are required to complete an application and interview with the Moorestown VNA Volunteer Manager. Orientation and training programs are provided to all those interested.
