Volunteers Spruce Up Rec Landmarks

Members of the Moorestown lacrosse and soccer clubs, along with other volunteers, recently fixed up the New Albany Recreation Center and the snack bar at Memorial Field.

To the editor:

The Moorestown Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce the completion of two community service projects to improve township facilities that will benefit the community.

Working with the Moorestown Lacrosse Club and their community outreach program, work was completed to improve Jeff Young Park. Under the direction of Marsha Comegno, of the Moorestown Lacrosse Club, and Al Panzarella, chairman of the Recreation Advisory Committee, the coaches and players cleaned up debris from the park, landscaped the entrance to the New Albany Recreation Center, and painted the interior of the building.

The Recreation Department would like to thank the many players, coaches and parents who assisted in the effort. They include Mary Stefano, Sally Finley, Marty Lawler, Wayne Sever and Jack Twomey. The New Albany Recreation Center is used by many groups, including senior citizens, Girl Scouts, and nonprofit organizations. We have received comments from them on the wonderful work completed by the volunteers. To add to the improvements, Devika Gill, of MooreKids, is in the process of completing a donation of custom-made curtains for the windows at the New Albany Recreation Center.

In another project, the Recreation Department partnered with the Moorestown Soccer Club to paint the recently repaired snack bar at Memorial Field. This project was led by J.T. Bretschneider, a teen member of our Recreation Advisory Committee, and Michael Rafferty, president of the Moorestown Soccer Club. Assisting in the project were Anna DeMalo, Travis Klawunn and Will Emerson.

A special thank you to all the teens for participating in this year's Teen Clean Project.

These projects were completed at a minimal cost to the township and reflect the continuing efforts of the Recreation Department and the Recreation Advisory Committee to continue to improve the recreational assets of our community.
