Warm Up with Soup for the Soul

The annual event will be held Saturday with proceeds benefiting the Food Bank of South Jersey.

The Moorestown Interact Club will sponsor Soup for the Soul Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Soup for the Soul offers all-you-can-eat soup and bread that has been donated by local restaurants. Dessert will also be provided. All proceeds benefit the Food Bank of South Jersey.

The event has raised more than $5,000 in past years, according to Julia Ranson, MHS teacher and adult coordinator of the event. “Paying $9 to eat all you want, you really cannot go wrong.”

“During this cold time of the year, what could be a better way to warm up then by enjoying a steamy bowl of soup with members of your community, while also supporting a good cause?” said Sarah Lowy, MHS student and advertising chair for the event. “This is a good cause because it helps those who live close to us.”

Businesses donating this year include, Bacio, Friendly’s, Moorestown Deli and Healthy Garden. Moores Town Café, on Chester Avenue, is the newest to donate homemade soups to the event. Corporate sponsors include The Rothman Institute and Cooper University Hospital.

“Businesses are as willing as ever to donate despite the economic times,” said Ranson. “They realize the proceeds are going to charity and want to help.”

The 11th annual event will feature live music performed by local musicians and students. There will also be a silent auction, which will include items donated from local businesses.

“I saw an opportunity to improve the silent auction so we are making it better this year, including more artists,” said Ranson.

“Despite the bad economy, we have found ways to cut costs on our end,” said Lowy. “We still want to try and help those in need because now more than ever they need our help.”

Soup for the Soul will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on Bridgeboro Road. Tickets are $9 for ages 12 and up and $6 for children under 12. Tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets will aslo be sold in advance from Feb 8 through Feb. 10 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Moorestown High School Lobby. For more information, call 856-235-8762.
