Dave Robinson Night, Back to School Highlight Week Ahead

Also, get a glimpse of what's on the agenda for Monday's town council meeting and what important action the Moorestown BOE plans to take on the first day of school.

It's a busy week in Moorestown.

Monday marks the official end of summer/first day of school for Moorestown Public School students (Moorestown Friends and Our Lady of Good Counsel returned to the classroom last week).

If you're looking for some simple, helpful back-to-school tipsimportant dates on the school calendar, or are curious just how safe your child's bus is, we've got you covered.

Before the first bell rings however, the Moorestown Board of Education will meet to approve a new three-year contract with the union. The board's negotiating committee hammered out the contract with representatives from the Moorestown Education Association (MEA) on Labor Day, and the MEA ratified the contract last week.

Town council meets at 7:30 Monday night in the IT room at Moorestown High School. Among the items on the agenda are several bond ordinances totaling roughly $4 million for capital projects, including $1.5 million for road resurfacing and $413,000 for work at Memorial Field and Wesley Bishop—approximately half of which is planned to be used to tear down the skate part at Wesley Bishop.

Perhaps the biggest news expected to come out of Monday's meeting is council's reconsideration of its stance on pay-to-play reform. At the end of last week, Mayor Stacey Jordan said she planned to recommend council repeal a previous ordinance, which jacked up the amounts businesses could contribute to political campaigns. The move proved quite unpopular, and Jordan and Deputy Mayor Chris Chiacchio said they have new information which indicates council's numbers may be off.

On Wednesday, Moorestown will once again host the Burlington County 200 Club's annual 9/11 memorial at Trinity Episcopal Church. Brigadier General Michael L. Cunniff, the adjutant general of New Jersey, will be the guest speaker. The ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m.

Moorestown High School football has its home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday against Seneca. During halftime, Moorestown football great—and recent Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee—Dave Robinson will be honored by mayor and town council, along with the board of education, which will present the former Packer with his newly retired No. 89 jersey, according to the Burlington County Times. Robinson will also be signing autographs prior to kickoff at 6 p.m.

A wooden bust of Robinson will also be unveiled, the Times reports—a replica of the bronze bust that will be created later this year. Click here to find out how you can donate to the cause.
