Teachers Union Contract, Indoor Sports Facility on Tap This Week

Get a look at what's happening around Moorestown and on Patch this week.

Interested in how your town and school district run? You have plenty of opportunity to do your civic duty and attend a meeting this week.

The Moorestown school board meeting might feature more fireworks than usual as the teachers union contract ends on June 30. The union is already making itself heard, starting with a demonstration Friday on Main Street. Reports have surfaced that both teachers and students will attend the school board meeting Tuesday to talk about the contract negotiations.

The meeting is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in William Allen Middle School’s media center.

But if you’re interested in a potential new indoor sports complex in town, you’ll have to split your time Tuesday. The night is also a special meeting of the planning board to consider the multi-sport facility on Flynn Avenue.

Dubbed “The Field House,” the project could turn an overgrown, vacant lot into a training facility with batting cages, a turf field and more.

The planning board will hold a public hearing on the plan at 7:30 p.m. in Moorestown High School IT room.

Feeling a little less government meeting, a little more Brave? You can also kick back Tuesday for a showing of Brave, at 6:30 p.m. in the Moorestown Community House ballroom. It’s BYOP—bring your own pillows (and blankets and chairs and snacks).

Meanwhile, Moorestown’s Town Council meets Monday at 7:30 in the high school’s IT room. Among the business council is expected to take up: first reading of an ordinance to exempt municipal properties from “site plan approval and bulk regulation compliance,” a Fourth of July proclamation and recognizing retiring Sharon Leinheiser, a longtime township employee. By the way, we know it’s the first full week of summer for Moorestown students and all, but it’s not too early to think about the next school year. Did you see Moorestown’s 2013-14 school calendar yet? Moorestown Friends School also has its important dates for the upcoming school year posted.

This week on Moorestown Patch, we’ll bring you an overview of all of the places to watch Fourth of July fireworks in South Jersey. We’ll also feature a new business in Riverton Moorestonians might want to check out, plus coverage from all of those meeting we mentioned above.

What are you up to this week? If we missed your favorite activity, tell your neighbors about it in the comments or on the Boards. Remember you can always add your group’s event to our community calendar, all for free.
