Agreed this is not funny, but this is not very common, as they are trying to make this out to be. WeRead More would be hearing more about it from major news organizations. The Long Beach police commissioner, has no clue what he is talking about. I hope they catch the guy who is responsible.
JJ Mclure April 23, 2014 at 10:17 am
it will

news reported the cost was at 100,000 and they can trace the caller.. he should be prosecuted andRead More pay the 100.000 it cost
Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 10:10 am
A marijuana sting? For what? How ridiculous. A cop was shot because he was out looking for trouble.Read More It's all over a plant used for medicine. Maybe incidents like this will make the police realize that they should stop starting trouble. Starting trouble equals possible death. Is it really worth it? Of course not. Mind your own business and leave marijuana smokers alone. Better yet...just legalize it already. Duh.
ron246 April 23, 2014 at 10:17 am
Lisa I don't know if you have kids but if he was selling weed to your kid you'd want to kill him. AsRead More for JMac the idiot of the month award would go to you because you obviously don't know jack about undercover stings.Thank God our Police Officer will be ok and a great job by the members of the Prosecutors Office and all the other agencies that assisted.
Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 10:26 am
Oh please ron246. What a lame defense. What if he was selling pot to Lisa's kids? What does thatRead More have to do with the price of gas? Parents responsibility is to teach children right from wrong. Good from bad. People like you need to use your heads. You can't expect other people to babysit your kids when they walk out of the house. Education begins and ends in the home.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Political PR Machine April 23, 2014 at 09:41 am
Affirmative Action takes into account Race. It is discriminatory.
TT April 23, 2014 at 10:06 am
Personally, I'm tired of the racism in sports, where ONE race gets almost all of the attention. It'sRead More time for REAL change. Until sports reflects the multicultural face of America, nothing else should.

This is what happens when you want to pay teachers 6 digit salaries for average at best schools, ifRead More you do not then maybe you should move to Fla.

Dickie also can't stand not seeing his name in the paper once a week, so he'll be "for" orRead More "against" something just for the sake of issuing a press release. Sending out a camera crew to interview him just enables him further. Forty years and counting. He's the poster child for Term Limits.

the only difference I see between Codey and Christie is that one is wearing an orange cone and theRead More other one is still renting them out at will - regardless, the longer Julie Herrman remains at Rutgers, the longer Rutgers's integrity is going to be under a public cloud
Clyde Z April 23, 2014 at 07:59 am
her hiring was a joke, I mean they said they did a background check: must not have used GoogleRead More search because they've listed her troubles before her hire at Rutgers. Not to mention that she "lied" on her application. I've had co-workers fired after a month, months and in another case years after their hire due to lies on their application. Hermann's lies could/should have been cought by simple 10th grade investigation
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 10:15 am
Jennifer: It doesn't bother me that textbook providers are involved with standardsRead More development--they are the ones that need to provide materials that meets the standards, so it makes sense that they are involved. Textbook providers get the same benefit whether we use Common Core or not. They sell books to schools. If schools use Everyday Math curriculum, they provide those books. If schools want Singapore Math curriculum, they provide those books. Have you actually read the standards Jennifer, or are you just parroting propaganda gleaned from various anti-Common Core websites?
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 10:17 am
"Very few have the ability to use critical thinking skills to analyze information. In fact, itRead More sometimes seems painful for them to think out of the box. Our students should be able to understand the reasoning that needs to be applied to find solutions, especially when it isn't exactly what they've seen before, so they can apply those skill to address the many issues they will encounter in the future. " :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: The Common Core Standards require critical thinking skills. It should be a great improvement over what we had previously.
CowDung April 23, 2014 at 10:21 am
"IF there were meaningful differences between the CC -"aligned" curricula."Read More Read the Standards, Jennifer. It really doesn't take much to develop curriculum that aligns with the standard. All of the traditional maths that we took as kids can be 'CC aligned' with minor adjustments--adding more 'story' problems to the mix would go a long way toward meeting the Standards.
Tom April 23, 2014 at 12:21 am
Let me make sure I get this right. You are raising our taxes, charging kids use taxes and you wantRead More us to donate money for naming rights so teachers can have free healthcare? Are you an idiot or what? How about you cut our taxes, make teachers pay their fair share and we call it even. This is why children should not play with the checkbook.
John K April 23, 2014 at 08:55 am
This situation brings to mind a famous quote: "It will be a great day when our schools haveRead More all the money they need, and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber." (Robert Fulghum)
Moore's Tavern April 23, 2014 at 09:58 am
Hello John K. That quote would be meaningful if the Board of Education paid for aircraft too butRead More since they spend nearly $70mm of taxpayer money annually only on the school system, it is quite irrelevant. What is relevant is how paying higher taxes for increased healthcare costs improves classroom education. Would you have any quotes to address that? Or would putting teachers into the Obamacare exchange result in cost savings locally to overburdened taxpayers?

no one is required to say "under God" it's just part of the pledge, if the parents don'tRead More like it, the kids can leave that part out. But don't have it removed for those who do like to recite it.
Bo Mullen April 23, 2014 at 09:21 am
Perhaps changing the wording to "one nation of believers" would solve the problem. ThisRead More country consists of many, many religions and belief's, atheism among them, we have Buddists, Hindu's, Muslims, Druids, Mormons and probably a lot more. Who's to say whose belief is correct, this country was founded just for these freedoms. The words "under god" is not for everyone. But believing in something covers everyone, even those who say they believe in nothing, as nothing is something. So stop these frivilous lawsuits and lets move on.
dlr225 April 23, 2014 at 09:31 am
The child does not have to say that part if it upsets them......shame on people who want to sue andRead More change things to suit their beliefs.....what about the people who do believe? Leave it alone or seek another country. There are millions that are proud of our country "under God".

Funny how Netflix is the "bad boy" yet those that offer more commercials than the movieRead More itself are just fine :) Cable today is pure garbage, a 2 hr movie will last half the night with all those commercials and since all sports from all countries, could be seen live over the internet...cable is obsolete. Netflix is weak but is a fine alternative to cable for now. (as for news, please, you must be brain-dead to get your news from cable...with all of them all over you from second you start the computer to turn on the radio to even the second you "check" the e-mail on the phone. so Reuters don't worry about Netflix, worry about cable companies whose stocks should be worth a little more than half an ounce of dirt
Michael Brennick April 22, 2014 at 06:46 pm
Where are the stories about the rates charged by the Cable cartels-???---Especially Leftist,Read More Democratic Comcast, the premier robber barons, who fill the campaign tills of the Dumocrats.

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.
John Kerwin April 23, 2014 at 09:31 am
I just hope his kids don't pick up his bullying and disrespect that he shows towards others. ButRead More after them watching him and seeing that he can do it without any consequences I don't see how they cannot turn out like him. We have a huge problem with bullying and studies show that it has an affect on children until at least middle age. Way to go Council you just let everyone know that bullying is an acceptable form of behavior.

At least they are bi-partisan. An inappropriate Democratic role model last year and an inappropriateRead More Republican one this year. I don't object to celebrities being role models, but why can't they choose someone who is a noted philanthropist or some other positive figure? I wonder how much someone paid for this honor. And what is this National Father's Day/Mother's Day Council anyway?

I don't believe this kid is competent enough to make those decisions. Those kids need to beRead More prosecuted to the fullest and if the does judge does not agree he needs to step down.

Dorie, stowing away on a plane is a crime. And no, the boy himself did not pose a threat. But theRead More fact that he (anyone) can get that close to a plane poses a threat. I have to take off my flippin' shoes and get patted down, but apparently you can just walk up and plant a bomb in the wheel well.
april ann April 22, 2014 at 01:30 pm
I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!

It wasn't a miracle that he survived, it was Easter Sunday, and good things always happen.Read More "always look on the bright side of life"......Life of Brian........overlooked miracle worker....... Not a problem to let other kids of similar intelligence do the same thing, it will improve the human gene pool immensely, and the human race will benefit overall as a result.

Surprised that anything was said to her. We went to WDW and had a woman behind us on Small World whoRead More was breastfeeding without covering up. We have no problem with breast feeding your baby - just cover yourself. It should be a private moment with you and your baby. A older man asked her to cover up. She was apologized to and is still whining. 15 minutes are up.

Agranon - I'm a moron because I am tired of everybody and his mother trying to put themselves inRead More every story? Then so be it - I'm a moron. To be honest, I am also really tired of all the people that were compelled to run the Boston Marathon because "I had to finish for all those who couldn't." Get over yourself. It was a tragedy. Those responsible should be ripped apart by dogs. I sincerely hope the families of those affected can move on somehow. But how does Mary Jane Smith running the marathon help ANYBODY but herself? She's not doing it for "those who can't". She's doing it to maybe get on TV and she's probably feeling a little sanctimonious because she ran 26.2 miles and you didn't. It's like, "what did YOU do to help these people?" Same as you - nothing.
