Hundreds of Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) students packed the gymnasium Friday afternoon for a pep rally to close out Catholic Schools Week. Students and staff took part in several activities throughout the week, including a Buddy Lunch for students in kindergarten and 8th grade, the presentation of the Graduate of the Year award to alumni Joanne Lomurno Damato, the presentation of the Sister Michael Vincent Award to retired teacher Rosemary Conners, and of course, the pep rally. Every grade level and sports team was represented at the ear-splitting rally. Moorestown Patch was there to capture some of the images from the day. OLGC Graduate of the Year Remembers Alma Mater Fondly

"Jo" Lomurno Damato will be honored during a special assembly this afternoon as Our Lady of Good Counsel kicks off Catholic Schools Week.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) will honor its Graduate of the Year, Joanne Lomurno Damato, during a special ceremony today, as part of its Catholic Schools Week celebration. Damato (class of '89) supplied the school with a short profile, which the school shared with Moorestown Patch. Damato will be recognized during an assembly at 1:15 p.m. today. Jo, I too graduate from OLGC. You have described many of my own feelings, including my desire to get back to NJ so my kids could attend OLGC. I wanted them to have the wonderful experience I had at OLGC. Miss Sullivan was my teacher, too. She was one of the best teachers ever!! I love watching my children grow in faith as I did at OLGC. Schedule of Events for OLGC Catholic Schools Week

The school kicks off its weeklong celebration of Catholic Schools Week with an open house this morning.

All this week, Our Lady of Good Counsel will mark Catholic Schools Week, beginning with an open house today at the Early Childhood Center. The school will hold a second open house from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday for grades 1-8. Prospective parents will have the opportunity to walk through the school and speak with staff and current parents.  The fun stuff (at least from the students’ perspective) comes later in the week, with a “Buddy Lunch” for kindergarten and eighth-grade students and a Family Feud-style competition between grades on Tuesday, a spelling bee Wednesday, Student-Teacher Day on Thursday (in which students dress and act as teachers for the day) and a pep rally on Friday. Hundreds of Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) students packed the gymnasium Friday afternoon for a pep rally to close out Catholic Schools Week. Marketing director Michelle Molz said the week—marked by Catholic Schools across the country—was a success, with many parents visiting the school during open houses. Students and staff took part in several activities throughout the week, including a Buddy Lunch for students in kindergarten and 8th grade, the presentation of the Graduate of the Year award to teacher Mary Christ, Student-Teacher Day (students and teachers swap roles), and of course, the pep rally. OLGC Presents Award to Dedicated Supporter of Catholic Education

The school's Sister Michael Vincent Award went to Roxanne Adinolfi this year.

The following release was submitted by Our Lady of Good Counsel School: Roxanne Adinolfi received Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) School’s Sister Michael Vincent Award on Feb. 1 during a special Catholic Schools Week Mass. This is the 12th year for the award, given to a strong supporter of Catholic education and named for a very dedicated school principal who served from 1985 to 2000 and has since passed away. Adinolfi, a Moorestown resident and president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, is an active member of OLGC parish, along with her husband, Robert. Their daughter, Christina, is a graduate of OLGC school and was enrolled in the first kindergarten class in 1988. The following year, Adinolfi taught fourth grade at the school…

OLGC to Honor 2011 Graduate of the Year

The Rev. Leo McGann is the school's only graduate who became a priest.

In more than 80 years, only one Our Lady of Good Counsel School graduate has become a priest. That graduate, the Rev. Leo McGann, will be honored as the 2011 Graduate of the Year at 1 p.m. Tuesday at OLGC during Catholic Schools Week. OLGC School opened in 1927. McGann, who graduated from OLGC in 1948, was ordained in 1971 in Wilmingotn, DE. He began his religious career when he joined the Christian Brothers in 1952 after graduating from Moorestown High School. He earned a bachelor’s in education and a master’s of theology from LaSalle University, graduating in 1956. His career took him to Christian Brothers high schools throughout the United States, and one in Canada. His first job was at Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, VA. But…
