Moorestown's Population Grows

2010 U.S. Census figures show an increase of 9 percent.

The township's population increased about 9 percent  between 2000 and 2010, according to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. According to the 2010 census, the township is home to 20,726 people, which is an increase of 1,401 people from the 2000 census, which reported 19,325 people living in the township. Data from the 2010 Census offers  information on population counts, racial makeup, Hispanic origin, voting age population and housing status for communities. Of the 20,726 people, 17,513 are white—a little over 84 percent. There are 1,331 African American residents (6.4 percent), 1,244 Asian, 721 Hispanic, 18 American Indian and 5 Native American, according to the Census data. Public Invited to Redistricting Hearings Saturday

Session in Camden will discuss state legislative map, as New Jersey prepares to lose a representative due to Census.

The shape of congressional and state legislative districts will change, and the public can share their thoughts on where new boundary lines should fall.  A state panel overseeing the legislative redistricting process is holding public hearings Saturday in Camden. Rutgers University’s Camden Campus Center will host its hearing at 9:30 a.m. Both hearings deal with the state legislative map. A second set of hearings, not yet scheduled, will address the congressional map. The redistricting comes as a result of Census data. New Jersey is expecting to lose one of its 13 congressional seats due to a shift in our nation's population.
