Enter Patch's 'Deck the House' Contest for a Chance to Win $100K

Did you, or will you, decorate your house for the holidays this year? Enter our contest and you could win $100,000 for Moorestown School District and $500 to pay your electric bills.

We’re launching our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. Downtown Moorestown (Finally) Getting New Holiday Decorations

Hate the town's Christmas decorations? This should make you happy.

For anyone who’s looked at the holiday decorations on Main Street over the last several years and thought, “Ugh,” your prayers have been answered. Township manager Scott Carew announced Monday the township has signed a contract for new decorations, which will be strung up downtown around Thanksgiving. “This wins the award for the longest issue,” he joked. “It beats town hall by a couple years.” Mayor John Button, liaison to the Appearance Committee, which had taken the lead on the decorations, said the current downtown ornamentations were “an accommodation to a budget constraint” back in 2006. And ever since then, Button, as well as committee member Gina Zegel, said they’ve heard no end of complaints from people who thought the decorations…

Township Searching for Private Money for Christmas Decorations

Supporters ask the Moorestown Business Association to supplement the township's holiday outlay.

In an attempt to save money without dampening anyone’s Christmas spirit, the township is trying to find private donors to supplement its holiday decorations. Acting Township Manager Tom Merchel said the decorations the appearance committee is recommending this year cost a little less than $30,000, but they're only looking to spend $17,500, primarily to save money, but also to avoid having to bid out the purchase. Anything over $17,500 has to be bid, per state guidelines, according to Merchel. He said the appearance committee suggested the Moorestown Business Association (MBA) as one possible candidate for contributions, though he was unsure how much the group might be able to give.
