Letter: Councilmembers Endorse Republican Slate

Sitting Republican councilmembers Stacey Jordan and Chris Chiacchio throw their support behind GOP candidates Phil Garwood, Victoria Napolitano and Pete Palko.

To the editor: When we were both campaigning in 2010, we ran on a promise of keeping taxes as low as possible, maintaining the quality of our town’s services and moving forward with solving the town hall debacle. Since then, we have worked diligently to ensure these promises would become a reality. Along with our council colleagues, we have worked toward a fiscally responsible budget, and this year, council was able to put forward a budget that had a zero increase in the municipal tax levy. We have worked to move forward with improvements to our town’s many athletic facilities and theChurch Street Recreation Center, while at the same time defending the integrity and purpose of our town’s Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historic …

Letter: GOP Team Ready to Lead Moorestown

Republican council candidate Pete Palko pitches his team and their plan for Moorestown ahead of the election.

To the editor: As Moorestown gets back on our feet—even while some of us continue to be without power, including my family—we need to remember that the direction our country will be moving over the next four years will be decided next week as the election fast approaches. Regardless of your party affiliation, it’s important to take the time to vote for what you believe in so our country can move forward in a direction the majority of us want from our federal government. Hopefully that is for all Republican nominees in column 2, because we have to change the direction our country is heading, reinvest in small business and stop the ridiculous spending and debt from rising, which will ultimately harm our children’s ability to have families of…

Mr. Palko: Thanks for your thoughtful reply. You won't be surprised to learn that I respectfully disagree with you. I have always believed that a second, $1M+ syn-turf field at WBNorth is an unnecessary extravagance, especially when budgets are tight, positions in critical departments are left unfilled, and the township is doing things like tapping the OS Fund to pay more than half the DPW …   more ›

Sen. Diane Allen Endorses Republican Council Candidates

The Republican candidates have also been endorsed by their GOP cohorts on the Burlington County freeholder board.

Republican town council candidates Phil Garwood, Victoria Napolitano and Pete Palko picked up an endorsement from Moorestown native and District 7 Senator Diane Allen this week. In a letter from Allen, she wrote, “The Garwood, Napolitano and Palko team have a real plan to keep Moorestown’s taxes in check, eliminate government waste and be responsive to the needs of their constituents. Their team supports protecting and building on Moorestown’s robust open space program, and will fight to protect and preserve the many natural treasures that this town has to offer.” She added, “Phil, Victoria and Pete are committed to reviving Moorestown’s local business districts from Main Street to Camden Avenue, and will restore this town’s economic …

Republicans Pitch Plan to Rein in Taxes, Control Spending

The GOP candidates for Moorestown council lay out a plan that includes shared services and partnerships with the private sector.

To the editor: As we have spent time knocking on thousands of doors in our town, the three of us have had an opportunity to hear firsthand about the issues that Moorestown voters care about. Not surprisingly, nearly every person places taxes on the top of their list.   Lots of politicians talk about reining in taxes and cutting government waste. Our team actually has a plan to do it. If elected, we will: Review the municipal budget for efficiency improvements and cost reductions Work to revive our local business districts by encouraging redevelopment of commercial properties that are not currently ratable producers Continue to pursue shared services options both in-house (board of education) and outside. Our high-quality services can be an…

Why would anyone debate in this town? All the republicans have to do is let Hines and Monique Begg keep talking and watch their poll numbers go up (if there are any.) LOL! As far as issues, they are all taken care of - whomever gets elected will have a cakewalk for the next 4 years.   more ›

Freeholders Endorse Republican Council Candidates

All five of the Burlington County freeholders gave the nod to the Moorestown GOP candidates.

The Republican candidates for township council picked up a major endorsement this week, with all five Burlington County freeholders throwing their support behind the ticket. “As freeholders, we have proudly served as advocates of the county property taxpayer and voices for our county's citizens,” the freeholders said in a joint statement. “We have cut county property taxes, reduced county spending and provided grants to local towns to build and expand local parks and recreation areas throughout the county. We believe Phil (Garwood), Victoria (Napolitano) and Pete (Palko) will bring that same fiscally responsible approach to Moorestown." Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio said he was “proud” to be running on the same ticket with the GOP …

Moorestown GOP Candidates Pledge Accessibility If Elected

In a "constituent relations pledge," Republican candidates Phil Garwood, Victoria Napolitano and Pete Palko lay out a plan for making town council more open.

To the editor: We believe government works for the people and not the other way around. To that end, we have pledged to strengthen the relationship between the taxpayers of Moorestown and the individuals they elect to town council and increase our accessibility to the public. As council members, we pledge to: Hold regular constituent relations “office hours” at the Moorestown Library or other public buildings We pledge to have members of council set aside time outside of town council meetings to hear from constituents one-on-one, answer their concerns, and receive their feedback in a more personal, private setting. Host yearly community meetings in all 20 voting districts of Moorestown Our team will spend time hosting doughnut and coffee …

So it's April 1. First quarter of the Garwood Napolitano administration has just ended. How many district meetings have occurred? How many constituent office hours have occurred? I remember one or two back in January, but if any more have happened, they sure are secret. These wouldn't have been just idle campaign promises?   more ›

Republicans Laud Council for Progress on Major Projects

After council approved three major capital projects—including town hall—last night, the Republican candidates for council give them a pat on the back.

To the editor: Our team applauds the five members of town council for their willingness to put aside their past differences and come together in the spirit of community to address a number of our town’s most pressing issues. Moorestown has waited five years to see movement on the town hall project, and we are glad to see that the members of council realize that our citizens have waited long enough. As our team has been knocking on doors and meeting voters, we have heard many of them express a strong desire to see town hall back in the center of Moorestown where it belongs. We are grateful to see that the members of council agree. In addition, we are encouraged by the efforts of council on the Wesley Bishop improvement debate. We hope this…

What a waste.... This Town Hall Project from " the little, little trash can fire " to now $14,000,000.00 million dollar waste is a travesty of biblical proportions..... And you guys are bragging you are SAVING US MONEY. WHAT A JOKE. In our day and age of technology and outsourcing, this town hall project is already outdated and the concept of 230 people being employed to manage a town of …   more ›

GOP Candidates: Campaign Is About Letting People Know 'Who We Are'

Moorestown Republican candidates for council Phil Garwood, Victoria Napolitano and Pete Palko discuss Open Space, economic development, and why it's important to listen to everyone.

It may be overstating the obvious, but the job of any political candidate is to convey who they are to the voting public. Gearing up to compete in what will be a crowded race this fall, the three Republican candidates for council—Victoria Napolitano, Phil Garwood and Pete Palko—have their work cut out for them in that regard. “The more crowded the field is, the more challenging it is for any individual in the race to define who they are,” said Napolitano. “That’s the most important thing for us, and always was even when there were fewer people in the race. Our campaign is about letting people know who we are and what we want to do … Because then if they elect us into office, that to me says, ‘We like the way you’re thinking.’” Of course, …
